In 2018, the students from the Motorsports Program participated in the Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International Raceway, in Watkins Glen NY. This autocross event has been held every year since 2004 at The Glen. Those students achieved 1st Overall in Class and even beat a purpose-built EV dragster. In 2019, the results were just as impressive. The cars came in 1st and 3rd Overall in Class and the students (who were sharing the 2 EVSRs) placed 1st through 7th places. 2020 saw more victories for the students; placing in the top three spots for the Economy Runs (best “mpg”) and 1st overall in the Autocross Event. The 2021 Green Grand Prix awarded Alfred “First Place in the Doris Bovee Memorial Road Rally” and placed the students in the number 1 and number 2 winners in the Autocross.

Charlie Greenhaus has served on the Advisory Board of Directors since 2015. Since 2017, Andrew Smith, EVSR’s Technical Director, has been working with Alfred State College’s Motorsports Program as the Senior Motorsports Technology Instructor. EVSR’s role is both instructional and participatory, preparing the students for professional employment in the motorsports field and not just as a hobby. With the arrival of Andrew, more graduates than in previous years, are working for Indycar, NASCAR, and IMSA to name a few. The hands-on EV racing experiences the students experience with EVSR and Andrew are priceless.
